Epomaker Split 65

This keyboard is absolutely amazing, help my wrists relax and stay in whatever position I want. For gaming it's perfect I use just the left half and saves me so much room for mouse.
The RGB is beautiful and bright, the switches and keycaps are really good.

This is a truly versatile keyboard with a wide range of usage scenarios — from a split keyboard and gaming keypad to a classic or Alice-like layout. I really appreciate the “safe” design that allows you to connect both halves into a single unified board, with the bonus of having two spacebars.

Full QMK/VIA support is a big plus for customization, and the inclusion of a **** is a personal favorite — I absolutely love ****! The included dust cover is also a nice touch that shows attention to detail.

Highly recommended if you're looking for flexibility and functionality in one package.

I was really interested in this because i love the idea that I can try the split to improve my ergonomics and A) ne able to go back for myself and B) so I can put it back together if someone else needs to use my computer. I tried the Nocfree first and it was not nearly as good. The Split65 is nice out of the box. It has a good feel and sound. The magnetic connection between the two halves are just strong enough. The nocfree and even the new Asus keyboard lacks that. I replaced the switches with some Milky Yellows and it really grabs the light and looks great. I paired it with GMK Redline, but since it's black it can work with a lot of different keycap sets (I got the Redline on sale and wanted to try them). The addition of the **** is a nice touch and I really liked it. VIA support with a JSON file means that it's easy to configure your layout, but they should properly register so it doesn't need the JSON file and that would be better. They could have a receptacle for USB dongle and that would also be nicer, but the Bluetooth and 2.4g works well in my testing, but don't game with BT, save yourself the 125Hz heartbreak. Screws under adhesive feet, so don't open it, which is disappointing for modders.

tl;dr Great Keyboard; better than most competitors on the market at the time of writing; even better with some new switches and keycaps; JSON is a great add (needs JSON file); poor modability; love typing on it!

***NOTE*** Epomaker sent me the Split65 for the purposes of review.
I asked for Epomaker to send me the Split 65 because I was looking for a low cost alternative to the QK Duo. This looked a little better in my eyes because you could "reassemble" it back into a 65% keyboard so even if you do do not split it every day you can still take advantage of it.

Construction: The Steel bottom gives the keyboard a little weight which can be a good thing. The RGB is nice and bright, but more on that later. The top is ABS plastic, but that's mostly not a problem. The silver plastic around the switches on the back make it look a little cheap. But it does feature a dingle hideaway for being on the go.

Design: Well this is a matter of taste, but the milky plastic around the top, when paired with a milky switch, like the HMX CHU or the Gateron Milky Yellow makes the whole thing glow and it looks really nice, especially when separate. The fact that the two halves have magnets is great and they stay together pretty well. Less good is the fact that the two halves do not talk wirelessly, which would've been a big plus in my book. That being said, the left half can work independent of the right half, if you just wanted to use it as, lets say, a macropad.

Switches: The switches that come on it are their Flamingo which are okay switches, but like I said, using a Milky switch is really where this board shines, literally.

Keycaps: The keycaps are good, they're a nice Dye Sub PBT and won't shine as easy as some others, but I replaced mine with GMK Redline and it looks and sounds amazing.

Wireless: The BT and 2.4GHz work well in day to day scenarios that I was putting it through, but again, I would've apprciated it better if the two halves could talk wirelessly.

Modability: None really, switches and keycaps, but that's about it. You would have to remove the stick on rubber feet to get at the screws that hold it together and when you do they never quite stick right again. This is super lame and one of it's biggest failings.

Comparison: There's not a lot in this niche market of re-assembling Split 65%, with the only one I know of in production being the NOCFree. This is better than that, unless you're really looking for something that tents. That does and this does not, but it does not have an angle, so there's the trade off. The NOCFree friction fits together where this has magnets, which work way better.

Overall: Overall if you're looking to dip your toe in the split space, but you don't want to fully commit, this is wonderful. If you're looking for a nice split that you can re-assemble when your friend/family need to use your keyboard, this is great for that. at 120 dollars fully built it's a great cost in the space as well. Splits can be expensive once you're all in and this one just isn't. It's programable in VIA (with a JSON file, but still) so that is an added plus.
