How to Use VIA with EPOMAKER TH26

The EPOMAKER TH26 supports wired VIA, giving you an easy way to customize key assignments, layers, macros, multimedia controls, lighting, and more.

This guide will walk you through how to set up VIA and customize the TH26, from loading the JSON file to remapping keys and creating advanced functions.

Before You Start

To use VIA with the TH26, you will need:

• EPOMAKER TH26 connected in wired mode
• The EPOMAKER TH26 VIA JSON
• VIA Online
• Chrome or Microsoft Edge
• The QMK Keycodes Documentation for reference when using advanced keycodes

Make sure the TH26 is connected to your computer with a USB cable before opening VIA.

How to Set Up VIA on TH26

Step 1: Open VIA

Open VIA Online in Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

If the Design tab is not visible, enable Show Design tab in VIA.

Step 2: Load the TH26 JSON

Open the EPOMAKER TH26 VIA JSON page to access the required JSON file.

In VIA, load the TH26 JSON file and authorize the connected keyboard when prompted.

Step 3: Open Configure

Once the JSON file has been loaded successfully, go to the Configure tab. You should see the TH26 layout and its available programmable functions.

You can now start customizing your keyboard.

Tip: If the TH26 does not appear correctly or duplicate layouts appear after uploading the JSON multiple times, remove the existing TH26 JSON and upload it again.

Understanding TH26 VIA Layers

The TH26 uses four VIA layers:

• Layer 0: Windows base layer
• Layer 1: macOS base layer
• Layer 2: Windows Fn layer
• Layer 3: macOS Fn layer

The Fn key is displayed as MO(layer) in VIA. For example, MO(2) temporarily activates Layer 2 while the Fn key is held. Releasing Fn returns to the original base layer.

This layer system allows the same physical key to perform different functions without changing the physical layout of the keyboard.

1. Remap Keys

The easiest way to customize the TH26 is to remap its keys.

In the Configure tab, select the layer you want to edit, click the key you want to change, and then choose a new keycode from the available options.

Remap the Rotary Knob

The rotary knob is configured differently from standard keys. Instead of selecting a keycode directly from the key list, enter the corresponding keycode or command in the Any section.

For example, you can enter a supported QMK keycode to define the function assigned to the knob press.

Note: Available keycodes and functions depend on the firmware configuration of the TH26. If a keycode does not work as expected, use the standard VIA functions or refer to the TH26 documentation.

2. Add Media Controls

VIA also lets you assign supported multimedia functions such as volume control, mute, playback, and track control.

Select the target layer and key, then choose the desired function from the Media section. You can click a function to view its description before assigning it.

3. Create Macros

Macros let you trigger a sequence of commands with a single key. Before assigning a macro, create and save it from the Macros menu.

Record a Macro

Select a macro number, open the macro editor, click Record, and press the keys you want to include. Stop the recording and save the macro when finished.

You can also enter macro code manually for more control over the commands.

After saving the macro, return to Configure, select the target key, and assign the corresponding macro number.

4. Customize Layers

Layers allow one physical key to perform different functions depending on the active layer. This is especially useful for adding shortcuts, media controls, or additional commands to the Fn layer.

Common layer keycodes include:

• MO(n): Activates a layer while the key is held.
• TG(n): Toggles a layer on or off.
• TO(n): Switches directly to a specific layer.
• OSL(n): Activates a layer for the next keypress only.

5. Use Special Keycodes

The TH26 supports VIA Any Key, including MT and LT commands. These advanced keycodes allow one key to perform different functions depending on whether it is tapped or held.

To use an Any Key command:

1. Select the layer and key you want to customize.
2. Choose SPECIAL > Any.
3. Enter a supported QMK keycode, such as LT(2, KC_0).
4. Click Confirm.

6. Customize Lighting

The Lighting section allows you to assign supported lighting controls to individual keys.

Depending on the TH26 firmware, available functions may include lighting effects, brightness, color, and effect speed.

Select the target layer and key, then choose the lighting function you want to assign.

7. Use TH26 Custom Functions

The Custom section contains functions specifically provided by the TH26 firmware. These are different from standard VIA keycodes, and the available options depend on the firmware version.

Select the target key and choose the required function from the Custom section.
