The KiiBOOM Phantom 81 is a 75% layout mechanical keyboard packed with powerful functions in a gasket-mounted design. Featuring 81 keys for a fully functional but nonetheless compact and portable design, the Phantom 81 is the one step solution for an efficient and stylish workflow. Your typing experience should be responsive and peaceful. This is why the Phantom 81 is constructed using additional poron foam layers, strengthening and acoustically enhancing the gasket-mounted structural design. With the unique crystal clear acrylic design, you can experience the complete immersion into your typing experience.
75% Hot-swappable Mechanical Keyboard
The 75% keyboard layout is the perfect balance between functionality and portability. To reduce the size of the keyboard, we have removed all of the unnecessary keys you never use, while maintaining the essential keys you use everyday for work and gaming. This creates an incredibly compact keyboard that fits perfectly in your backpack, on the desk, and even on your lap for on-the-go typing.
Furthermore, with hot-swappable switches, you can simply pop out the mechanical switches and replace them with those of your choosing, making for the ultimate customizable build. Mechanical switches define the clicking feel and sound of your keyboard. With hot-swappable switches, you can simply change how your typing feels and sounds all without having to buy another keyboard.
Customized Crystal Mechanical Switches
As the name implies, the Phantom 81 was designed to be a completely transparent mechanical keyboard unlike any other out there in the market. For this reason, we have designed our own proprietary see-through switches for the Phantom 81. The Phantom 81 comes standard with the KiiBOOM pre-lubed Crystal Switches, which are strong, smooth, and completely see-through. These Crystal Switches feature the same durability and technical specifications as any other mechanical switches available from other major manufacturers, but with our own stylistic flair. The KiiBOOM Crystal Switches are linear-style switches, which have significantly less “clickety-clack” noise than other tactile switches, making it suitable for office and study settings. Furthermore, the linear switch is the preferred mechanical switch for gamers who need the speed and accuracy without any hindrance in their typing.
Customized Crystal Keycaps
To achieve the fully transparent, we have also designed unique crystal clear keycaps for the Phantom 81. Matching with the entire theme, the Crystal Keycaps allows you to see through the entirety of your keyboard. Furthermore, these Crystal Keycaps perfectly illuminate the RGB lighting effects, creating a fully customizable typing atmosphere unlike any other.
Bluetooth 5.0 & 2.4GHz &Type-C Cable
The KiiBOOM Phantom 81 features three modes of connectivity - Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4Ghz USB dongle, and USB Type-C. You can connect the Phantom 81 with up to three devices and seamless transition between devices with a simple click. At first it seemed like a decidedly tacky and visually poor keyboard: as soon as I saw it and touched it I completely changed my mind. Obviously it's a keyboard that you like or don't like, there's no middle ground, but it must be said that the level is very high compared to the keyboards we know every day. It offers practically everything, from three different connections to the interaction format. It is completely transparent and weighs a lot, so much so that it cannot be moved on the desk. This has been my daily keyboard for a couple of months and I am still impressed by it every time I use it. The overall build quality is exceptional. The RGB is of course, stunning, and the quality of the switches is surprisingly great. Wonderful smooth keyfeel even when pushing keys very off center. Wonderful mid-level weighting that feels deliberate but not tiring. The fact that they are entirely transparent is kind of their gimmick but the wonderful feeling is the best thing about them for me.
The stabilizer on the spacebar is fine but does stick a little bit sometimes if you strike the edge of the spacebar. You normally can't notice it unless you very gingerly press the space bar, but it does almost make it feel like a two-stage keypress in a weird way. It may just be that my stabilizer was a little over-lubed at the factory or something.
Great sturdy weight on the case and between the switches and the housing the typing sound is very beautiful. Quite gentle but still has a lot of character and depth.
The transparent keycaps look quite nice (although the legends are effectively invisible with RGB on) and they contribute a great bass to the typing sound because of their size and material. Ultimately though, I had to swap them out simply because the slick transparent plastic is kind of unpleasant to hold down for more than a second or two. If the texture of the keycaps isn't a factor for you, you'll probably really like them.
Overall I think if you like the clear plastic aesthetic and enjoy fooling around with RGB then this board is basically top of the class
The Phantom 81 embraces all the latest keyboard trends. In particular, the clear color expression is the best quality among the products I have seen so far. In addition, it boasts a heavy weight while being smaller than a tenkeyless keyboard.
When I first unboxed it I noticed how it’s heavier than all my other keyboards. It’s sleek and well built as well as very very sturdy. Right out of the box you can feel how luxurious it feels. Definitely worth the price and a staple in my collection. I saw that kiiboom released a different colored version as well as a 65% version which I will be purchasing in the near future.
