The Epomaker Aula F75 is a good example of the major shift mechanical keyboards have been going through in recent years, as they used to be quite expensive and have become much easier to get hold of. This F75 is a compact-format board, sold for around 60€, that sounds and feels well above what its price would suggest. And that isn’t just nice to have, it actually matters for anyone looking for an excellent value-for-money solution.

Worth opening with an important note here: Aula also sells a «Max» version of this keyboard, with a small built-in screen for managing settings, which costs more money and has a few internal differences. This review, though, focuses mainly on the regular F75 model, which is the more affordable one and the one the brand sent me.

Oh, and have I mentioned I love compact keyboards? Well, I do!

Build: more heft and care than you’d expect

The F75 comes in an ABS plastic case, with nothing fancy material-wise, but assembled with a care that’s genuinely surprising. The structure uses a gasket mount, meaning the plate holding the switches sits suspended on rubber rather than being fixed directly to the case, which gives every keystroke a softer, slightly springy feel.

Inside, there are also several layers of foam to dampen the sound and avoid metallic echo, which you can really notice while typing. But there are no miracles here: a mechanical keyboard is always going to make itself heard, there’s no getting around that.

The keyboard includes adjustable feet to set the typing angle, a light next to the Caps Lock key to show when it’s active, and a rotary **** that either controls volume or cycles through RGB lighting effects, depending on the mode you’ve picked. It’s a small detail, but one that shows the care put into this board, and it’s genuinely useful, something you’ll use every single day.

Depending on the colour you pick, the Aula F75 ships with either LeoBog Reaper switches, linear and smooth, or TTC Crescent/New Moon switches, softer still. Since the board is hot-swappable, meaning the switches click in without any soldering, you can swap them out later with nothing more than the puller tool included in the box.

The keycaps are PBT, a material that resists wear and the shine that cheaper plastics develop over time, and the resulting sound is deep and full-bodied, with little of that metallic echo, thanks to the foam layers already mentioned.

The stabilisers under the larger keys, like the space bar and Enter, come factory-lubed and practically rattle-free straight out of the box, which isn’t always a given at this price point.

The volume is well balanced: this isn’t a silent keyboard, and it can bother someone working next to you or sharing your room, but it’s honestly far from the worst offender in that regard, since the foam soaks up most of the sharp, metallic high end typical of simpler boards.

The gasket mount also helps make typing softer and slightly springy, which translates into less finger fatigue during longer writing or gaming sessions. In short, it’s a genuine pleasure to use.

Connectivity and battery

The F75 connects in three ways: via USB-C cable, via a 2.4GHz wireless receiver stored inside the keyboard itself, or via Bluetooth, with memory for up to three paired devices. You just pick whichever suits you or, as I did, use Bluetooth for the Mac mini and the 2.4GHz receiver for Windows. That way, with a single flick of a switch, I could easily change which computer I was working on.

The 4000mAh battery lasts about a week of daily use with the RGB lighting on, and there’s no shortage of lighting patterns to choose from, pulses, in/out waves, you name it, the keyboard has it.

What’s missing
Not everything is perfect: the Aula F75 doesn’t support VIA or QMK, the software the community most commonly uses to remap keys with greater freedom, so you’re stuck using Epomaker’s own software, which works fine but falls short on options, and is only available for Windows.

Also watch out for the specifications listed in the online store, as they’re confusing with so many options to pick from, and it’s easy to get mixed up about what you’re actually after, especially among the various models in Aula’s F series – F75, F75 Max, F99, and their respective Pro versions. It’s worth double-checking exactly which variant you’re looking at before deciding.

I am currently typing this review on the Aula f75 x Epomaker and it is an absolute pleasure! The keys feel really nice and the sound is very mild and soothing. The keyboard arrived a whole 2 days earlier than expected and the package wasn't damaged or anything. Overall, this is an AMAZING keyboard that is 100% worth the cost and deserved all the praise it gets.

The keyboard itself is actually great and I am very happy with the product, but the overall service was a complete disaster. Customer support took almost two weeks to reply, lost my package for five days, gave me a broken tracking link, and despite paying extra for package protection, the box arrived damaged with visible bumps. I love the keyboard, but the buying and shipping experience was incredibly frustrating.
