PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

GG75 – Back to the Future

The GG75 is a custom mechanical keyboard kit from Gopolar with many creative features. The keyboard adopts the popular exploded 75% layout to be compact yet retaining all necessary keys like arrows and cursor keys. Featuring both ANSI and ISO layouts, Gopolar GG75 is convenient to change layouts to suit more typing habits. The distinct rotary wheel on the top is inspired by the wheels in cars, adding a bit prospective flavor to the keyboard.

Gasket Mount & OLED Screen

To reach a soft typing feeling, Gopolar GG75 is assembled in gasket mount with multiple noise-muting layers. Gopolar uses a silicon pad to complete the gasket layer, with another foam between the PCB and the bottom case. By adding an OLED screen, it is even more intuitive to check the status and layers of the keyboard as well as the input that has been made.

Fully Programmable by VIA

The Gopolar GG75 supports programming via VIA, which enhance more possibilities to play with the keyboard. For users who are not used to the compact layout or need to add more functions, remapping the keys by VIA without re-flashing the firmware is a nice choice. With an on-board memory, you can save the changes on board, and be worry-free about losing your saved memory while unplugging and re-plugging the keyboard.

Hotswappable & Plate-mounted Stabilizers

The PCB in Gopolar GG75 is hotswappable with 3-pin and 5-pin mechanical switches. You can change the switches at will without soldering issues. Being finely tuned, the stabilizers are offering a top smooth typing feeling. The wire ends and the Nylon housings are completely matched to avoid contacts that usually cause metal noises.

Built-in South-facing RGB Lights & Stable Type-C Connection

With the SMD LEDs, RGB light effects are classic and neat, and you can freely adjust the brightness and light speed. The LEDs are south-facing to save the worries of the interference with cherry-profile keycaps. To stay a fast and stable transmission, the keyboard is connected by a detachable type-C cable. More than that, the keyboard is designed with adjustable feet to be more suitable for typing habits. You won’t feel tired even after long time using it.

Good, not great.

As noted in another review, this keyboard is not via/vial compatible out of box. You will need to either contact support who will then share the files, or hunt down the files on your own. I also can't find any evidence that this keyboard will be supported soon?
Pros:
Keyboard feels nice, I enjoy the gasket feel out of box, it looks cool as well. I was able to disassemble it without issue
Once VIA/VIAL is configured to work with it, it supports up to 5 layers I believe which is nice

Cons:
From everything I've discovered, the screen is not configurable.
I don't know if my board is defective or not, but if I try to set the RGB brightness higher, it all seems to break and only shows dim red or green. This also happens if certain lighting effects make the board too bright.
As far as colors go, there isn't any transition between yellow, orange, or red. Which is just sort of odd and frustrating.
RGB is individually addressable only after you reflash the firmware, so unless you're able to chase that down, I'd expect to be stuck with the onboard RGB options.

Overall, I like the feel of the keyboard, I wouldn't return it based on the RGB issues, but if I knew about this all beforehand I'd probably purchase something else.

Great Concept, Poor Execution

PCB double reads 10% of keystrokes, tested with multiple sets of different switches. Not VIA compatible out of the box, nor VIAL compatible. LED Screen cannot be changed and the plastic is very cheap, merely unscrewing it made the housing snap.

Visually its a great design and I really love its layout. I want to like this board however there are too many small issues for me to enjoy it
