So, I was on the lookout for a cheap mechanical keyboard and I know those don't come around very often. So I found my SK71 on sale here and I had to get one. It does need some reajustment time to get the new layout on the tip of your fingers but it's really good. Had me some optical red switches, a bit on the softer side comparing to my previous mechanical browns - but also very good. The swapable switches are a great way to change switches - if for some reason you don't like the ones you picked - and there's a bunch of keycaps around the internet for you to get them if you don't like the stock ones.
Didn't get much rattle on the modifier keys (caps lock, enter, space or backspace) even tho I'll probably lube the stabilizers and add some bandaid mod, probably even some foam to "clean" the great sound of these switches.
Cons: The keycaps aren't open on the letters so they're not the best for using in a dark environment, more so if you're new to this layout. Also, the software could be a bit more friendly though you only use it if you want to since it has all the functions saved in the keyboard.
The package came very well isolated and I had no scratches, bumps or any damage whatsoever on the box. It took rougly 20 days to get it, even in the middle of this pandemic.
Great job!
When I first saw the SK71, I thought that it would perfectly match my needs for a compact mechanical keyboard that still had a full number pad and usable arrow key arrangement. However, the combining and shortening of some of the keys was, in my mind, not quite successful. The reason we have so many QWERTY keyboards, despite being less efficient than the Dvorak variant, is because the former is more commonplace and users have adapted to its layout. I'm sure that some who may be able to adapt to the SK71's differences, but unless your other keyboards have the same quad-functional key management, then that adaptation might be wasted.
